Emma and Her Pumpkins

Dear sweet, smart, pretty Emma is my great-niece.  She is eight years old and lives near Atlanta, Georgia.  Emma and her family came to Florida for a vacation a year or so ago.  We had a fun time at the beach in the sand and jumping and swimming in the pool.  Emma and her brother, Nolan, helped Uncle Ted look for treasure with his metal detector.  It was a great and memorable vacation.  Emma is a spectacular kid.  She came home from school yesterday where she had drawn some beautiful and unique pumpkins.

Emma's pumpkins
We are surrounded by patterns.  Everywhere you look, it is almost impossible not to find a pattern.  I find them in nature all the time, and in our rugs, doors, fabrics, even paper towels.  We are surrounded by patterns.  Emma decorated her pumpkins with patterns.  Beautiful, unique patterns........just like Emma!

Class Day

Today I'm going to teach a black tile class.  I always get excited on days like today.  I love to share the joy I get from drawing.  I'm checking my supplies and making sure I have everything I need.  It's always good to start the day with a little drawing and a cup of tea.  What a beautiful day today is going to be!  My fat cat, curled in a ball at my feet, would agree.

Hawkers Asian Street Fare review

Hawkers Asian Street Fare at 1103 N Mills Avenue in Orlando is the place to go if you are looking for good food.  We met our son and son-in-law there for lunch on Sunday and it was a wonderful experience.  I had the lettuce wraps and summer rolls.  Delicious!  Of course, not only was the food wonderful, so was seeing Mike and Hank.  We had a delightful time laughing, visiting, and eating.  Isn't that what life is supposed to be about?

You may wonder where they came up with this unusual name.  When I asked our wait staff about why the name Hawkers he said it was taken from the Asian open air market when vendors would call out what kind of produce they were selling.  When I looked for it in the dictionary is said, "a trader who goes from place to place, or along the streets of a town, selling the goods which he carries with him, typically advertising them by shouting."

Someplace along the way I came up with a five point system for qualifying restaurants that I liked:
1-good parking situation
2-clean, I decide this by the bathrooms usually
3-good food
4-good service
5-reasonable prices

Hawkers came in at a Point 5.  The parking was a little tricky until we found out that you can park on both sides of the restaurant and in front.  I haven't tried everything on the menu, but the foods that I have tried have all been excellent.  This is an great place to eat.

Thanks to Mike and Hank for meeting us at Hawkers in downtown Orlando, FL for a great meal and a great time.
